Portrait of Julian Assange and others
Lisa Alonzo aims to explore uncomfortable themes and make them more palatable to the audience by rendering them as bright, colorful and intricate cakes decorated in a pointillistic manner. The artist primarily uses pastry bags and cake decorating tools to make her paintings, which center around topics such as pop culture, digital consumption, and the propaganda value of money.
The paint takes on a sculptural, almost braille-like, feel, with each dot, starburst, peak and valley inviting the viewer to touch the surface.
